Here we go

Upon receiving an email that asked me to collect whatever extra beekeeping suits I had lying around, I knew I was definitely heading to Africa.

I will be going from September 6th to 15th to look at our biodiesel operations in Uganda, which utilize jatropha, castor, and other nuts/seeds to produce high energy clean biodiesel fuel for Africa. This is the farthest and most exotic place I have been in my life so far, exlcuding Israel and Long Island.

I will be spending most of my time in Kampala, which is the capital:

I will be in a hotel for just over half the time, with the rest spent at our field operations, which are in the eastern part of the country. The only issues there are yellow fever, malaria, scorpions, snakes, non-bottled water and of course, bees.

The flight to and from Uganda is through Amsterdam, so having 8 hours there on the way back should be a lot of fun. On top of looking forward to the trip, it will be nice to leave the presidential election behind for awhile (or at least see what people in other countries think). I am guessing that where I'm going, Sarah Palin isn't the only person who can field dress a moose.

As a way to get one last slice of NY, today I took the 7 train. I immediately regretted the decision.

48 hours to departure
